Lumella Linodea

Lu, Melli, Mel...

Age (as Vol I begins): 27
Birthday: December 27
Height: 5’
MTBI: INFJ
Gender: nonbinary (she/they/he)
Sexuality: panromantic, demisexual
Race/ Title/ etc: human, Asteria guard medic, musical artist, & more to come

Wavy brownish-plum colored hair and dark umber eyes, Lumella is on the shorter side. Their sienna skin is partially decorated in freckles, one just lateral to their left eye, a few on their arms, but most are found sporadically on their legs and thighs. As a teenager, they would normally dye most of their hair in hues of purples and reds. More recently, in memory of their late brother, they’ve been dying their hair with teal. They often thread a braid with simple jewelry, or tie a side ponytail when they have the energy to style their hair. Lumella tends to dress casually. Often dressing in layers, with a casual style that blends the vibes of an alt-punk rock artist and a spoken word writer, including pieces like: boots, hoods, black with slight accents of color, patterns like stars and plaid, tights, etc…Their umber eyes aren’t as effective as they would like, forcing them to often rely on glasses, contacts, or temporary vision spell enhancements to see. They have a couple tattoos. One acts like a constellation along the freckles on their thigh, representing an ancient symbol for music. On their right forearm, is a small stylized sky-scape in a bubble, showing sunset. This one was in memory of her late brother Sky.Intelligent, perceptive, and creative, Lumella grew up studying sciences and experimenting with music. This eventually led to joining the royal guard medic team of Asteria, also encouraged by Sky and Mae to pursue this. Her childhood was heavily plagued with blinding spots and thick mist, her earliest memories not being until she was around 8 years old. During this time, she was taken into an orphanage in the outer territories of Asteria. This is where she meets Skylar.Lumella and Sky stuck together ever since, promising to keep one another safe. Over the years they moved between a few orphanages, keeping their promises to one another the entire time, as they grew into a family.Unfortunately, the orphanages had a bad habit of being neglectful and at times dangerous. The two felt trapped, but found strength and love in one another. Skylar turning 18 was their ticket to escape, and the two have lived together ever since, supporting one another as well as they could. Sky was fortunate to happen upon and earn a position in the royal guard, guarantee-ing them a home, free medical care and education, etc. Lumella’s life began to feel like, well, a life. Everything wasn’t about survival. She and Sky could pursue interests, learn and experience new things, make a space of their own, and have a place to call home and feel safe.Despite having a home and brother to cherish, Lumella struggled to make new lasting relationships, platonic or otherwise. They struggled to speak to others, or to feel calm or safe enough to truly relax. They rarely trusted others, and often found their inner turmoil warping reality. This would lead to fights or Lumella shutting down. Over time they crafted nearly impenetrable icy walls to protect themself from growing close to anyone new and the possibility of being hurt. On rare occasions someone brave would try to pry open that armor, only to cut them both in the process. Thus, their socializing consisted primarily of Sky and his friends, playing games, or etc. As she reached her late teens, Lumella established her first steady and close relationships with people other than Sky, Zarae and Maevis.Preferring to spend the majority of their time alone, Lumella learned to channel their past traumas and the branching dark thoughts into art. Especially music. Lumella creates music casually, but they have only ever agreed to perform in front of an audience a couple times. Mostly they prefer to create and then share the audio file through social media or to a friend personally.Surviving trauma also inspired Lumella’s main purpose: to help inspire happiness in those she holds dearly, and to help protect the animals and people of this world, Ielora. This was also greatly encouraged by their patient, empathetic, and thoughtful nature. Then, in their early twenties, Lumella lost Sky, who had been missing in action during the most recent war with Yuneira-Su. Losing Sky not only weighed on her with an aching loneliness; it also warped her view of herself and her effect on the world around her. This is where we first meet Lumella in Vol I. Lost and drowning in despair.

Maevis Iolani

Mae, Mae-mae

Age (as Vol I begins): 26
Birthday: January 3rd
Height: 5’3”
MTBI: INFJ
Gender: fluid, (he/them/she)
Sexuality: gay af, demisexual
Race/ Title/ etc: royal bloodline, prince of Asteria, blessed vessel of Kisa and Hatu

Maevis mostly takes after his mother’s appearance, with pale blue eyes, curly/ wavy snow-colored hair just above his shoulders, and umber skin. Shorter than most, he also has one tattoo on his lower abdomen, just above his hip. It’s small, and in the shape of a rare flower that has adapted to survive extreme environments. He obtained this through a rebellious urge at age twenty, hoping the permanent art would help remind him of who he is outside of being the prince of Asteria. His style tends to be pretty casual and comfortable, most likely inspired by the pressuring requirement to dress his best for many royal/ political events. This casual style consists of hoodies, sweaters, and shirts; sweatpants, leggings, stretchy pants. He doesn’t normally wear jewelry, but he does have a necklace that he always wears, gifted to him by Lumella when they were a few years younger. On a dark thread, the centerpiece is a simple silver colored butterfly, and a miniscule orb, holding a rolled up petal of the flower he has tattooed on his abdomen.
As the heir to Asteria’s throne, Maevis was raised in preparation to become the next king and protector of Asteria’s territories. As a young child, he was pretty close to his parents. As time passed, the loss of an uncle weighed on his family, especially his father. This sparked the growing distance between the three, especially Maevis and his father. This only adds to the pressure he already carries as next in line; responsibilities to protect their realm, to lead their people into peace, to hone and master their blessings as a royal vessel, and to try to make time to see and care for himself as an individual.
Making lasting and trusting friends was one of the heavier struggles they shouldered growing up. They were put into private academies with other students of well-known/ well-off families. Most peers would only attempt to befriend them with ulterior motives, for money or power, or for reputation. Maevis was curious about public schools for a long while, but it wasn’t until a chance-encounter that they began to push for this change. He was 15 at the time, and on his way to meet with his advisor Klous at the public library. Klous had been scheduling meetings like this semi-often, in hopes to introduce Maevis to the world outside of the castle and associated structures, to have a better sense of what the civilians hold dear and struggle with. On his way, Maevis passed by one of the city public highschools, taking notice of a meek voice asking for someone to ‘please stop’. The owner of that voice was Zarae, who Maevis approached without thinking it through. Fortunately he was able to muster enough of his power to scare off the bullies and protect Zarae. After meeting Zarae, his world views changed more drastically than Klous hoped for (Klous was glad of this). This is where Maevis started to care about his title as prince in a way he didn’t know he could care. Instead of being motivated by fear, he was motivated by a deep desire to protect and help the people of Asteria, especially those close to him.

Aidenna Fiametta

Aiden, Ai

Age (as Vol I begins): 29
Birthday: October 31st
Height: 5’10”
MTBI: ENFP
Gender: male, (he/him)
Sexuality: panromantic, pansexual
Race/ Title/ etc: ayafri tineen, royal shield to the prince of Asteria, jewelry artist

Orange- brown hair, resembling the colors of autumn, Aiden is an ayafri tineen, a fire elemental, a very distant descendent of the fire dragon celestial. Maroon/ mauve colored scales decorate small areas of his burnt sienna skin. Aiden is above average height, with sort of broad shoulders, and a toned/ average build.
‘Loud’ is an appropriate word to describe Aiden with. Charmingly, so, of course. Aiden tends to approach most things with passionate energy, with his whole heart. He’s a social butterfly, often making friends everywhere he goes. Aiden is teasing, high energy, and welcoming. He is also kind, empathetic, and thoughtful.
Aiden makes sure to always dress his best, with special attention to his hair, and often with jewelry and makeup included. Even his pajamas look good on him, with matching color pallets and everything. Fashion is something he enjoys to tinker with, which partially led to his interest and skill in creating jewelry and glass art. It’s not something he spends as much time on now as he once did, but he always finds time for it when he’s in need of a present for someone dear to him.
Aiden grew up in Yuneira-Su with his parents, and lived there for most of his childhood, until he was about ten. His mother put a lot of her time into speaking for and educating on equal rights for tineen. In Yuneira-Su, there was a group who held misguided beliefs, that tineen were dangerous and could not be trusted with celestial born powers over the elements around them. They thought it was their right instead. This leads to an unsafe and toxic place to live, which Aiden’s mother was an activist to change this. Working with like-minded people and even politicians, she started a process that created new laws to keep tineen safe. (These were strengthened by Tsura & Yanira about 7 years later, however racism still permeates..) Of course, this was the same thing that eventually led to the horrific homicide of both Aiden’s parents.
Aiden was sent to Asteria then, where he was taken in by his aunt Freya. Freya was struggling with her grief, of course, and relied on those around her for help caring for Aiden. Clara, her best friend, was one of these people. He becomes more acquainted with Klous, known as a close friend and protege of Aiden’s mother (from a handful of years ago, before they each moved away from Aether). This connection is what eventually leads to Aiden becoming the shield to the prince (Mae).
Of course, Aiden still carries that grief with him, thinking often of his parents. Though, he feels fortunate that he found a whole new place to belong, thanks to his parents’ connections. He misses them dearly, but he knows he isn’t alone. He values those around them, and pushes himself to become strong enough to not only protect Mae, but the rest of his found-family as well.

Loniklous Niandara

Klous, Lon, Loni

Age (as Vol I begins): 34
Birthday: February 15th
Height: 6’
MTBI: ISFJ
Gender: gender fluid (he/they)
Sexuality: panromantic, asexual
Race/ Title/ etc: aiken, royal, Advisor to the Prince of Asteria, chef/ baker

Klous is an aiken, a species said to have been descendents of Midifia, tree goddess. This is reflected in his appearance, where his indigo hair is home to pastel pink and blue petals, and layered ears that resemble a flower. With piercing and analytical winter eyes, a slender tall frame, and light sienna skin, Klous is known to often turn heads. He’s distantly aware of this, but he values his intellect and wisdom far more. Klous dresses semi/ casually formal, often with collared button down shirts and form fitting pants (jeans or otherwise), sometimes with suspenders.
Klous is incredibly intelligent, perceptive, and tends to approach the world around him analytically. He also tends to be soft-spoken and well-mannered. You would think these qualities would normally be home to a cold and distant individual. Yet, Klous is far from cold. He’s warm and empathetic, where his analytical and perceptive nature guides him to pick up on and consider others’ feelings. With those dear to him, he’s actually playful and teasing, all with loving and good intentions, of course.
They can tend to be a bit neglectful when it comes to them personally, though. They’ll be so focussed and occupied with caring for everyone around them, that Klous will forget to eat or sleep, or ignore a sickness/ wound. He’s working on it. Sort of.
Growing up in Aether with his sister Clara and their mothers, Klous enjoyed a mostly calm and quiet childhood. When they were teenagers…Due to Clara’s incredible athletic ability and Klous’ success in his studies and exams, they were invited to train in Asteria’s top facilities. As they continued to prove their abilities, the two siblings were eventually brought into the royal court. Clara became the new official guard of Asteria’s queen, and Klous began his work as Prince Mae’s advisor. Instead of a power-couple, they were a sibling-powerhouse!
A handful of years pass as their family adjusts and settles in Asteria. Then, not too long after Klous’ 20th birthday, there’s an accident. He was taking his mothers to a special anniversary dinner just outside the city, Clara was already at the location, preparing the final touches. Their trip is cut abruptly short when a drunk driver (on the opposite road) crashes into a delivery truck. The truck collides into the Niandara’s vehicle, forcing them off the road and down a steep hill, where they collide with a towering tree. Their Mom dies on impact, and Ma later dies in the hospital. Klous is the sole survivor, due to Mom instinctively pulling him close at just the right moment before they crash into the tree.
Klous survives, with a fractured leg & wrist, and a couple deep gashes in need of stitching. However, the scattered memories and the loss of both parents in one night… that never heals. Of course he and Clara both feel this severe loss, but Klous is burdened with the harrowing memories and survivor's guilt. Through therapy, and growing closer to Aiden, he eventually learns to function enough to enjoy the world around him once more. It’s more somber than before, but just as meaningful.
